Welcome to Quailhaven
This
land is a treasure, an oasis for many animals. You are the visitor
and this is their home.
Here, a slower pace relaxes with tranquility and peace. Clean air and open spaces invite the senses. Birds chirping, quail
rustling, and deer grazing is a way of life forgotten in the cities.
Wild turkey roam and birds, of
many varieties, fill
the trees. Frogs and crickets fill the night air with their songs. The sounds of ravens
and crows echo in the valley.
There are many varieties of flora in this forest like
fir, pine, oak, madrone and manzanita, to name only a few. Many
varieties of plants and
wild flowers can also be seen here at different seasons of the year.
This web site has the experiences of
those who have come to this place to renew their souls with Mother
Nature’s tranquility.
News
The Summer Solstice has come, 21
June, and it was short pants and shirt sleeve weather. It is very welcome after a cool and wet
Spring, but I'm not complaining. There is still plenty of
green grass, almost three foot high in places, and wild flowers
still dot the landscape. But there are patches of grass that
have dried, so the lawn mower and weed eater will have more work to
do before fire season.
Quailhaven now has a
vegetable garden, with
currently six planters to start. My plan is to have Eighteen
planters when it is complete. This is in a section of the
field between the two oak trees. Go to the
Pictures page for
details. In a few months I expect to have a lot of tomatoes
from the Eighteen plants, three per bed. Stay tuned...
Issues
As you may have noticed I have been absent
from updating the site for almost two years. Family issues
pulled me away which have which required my full attention. So you
may find various links outside the web site that no longer work.
In the weeks and months ahead I will be testing each one and
updating or removing the bad ones. Thank you for contacting me
and reporting these issues. (Still working on this... so
please be patient.)
Data collection for the current weather
section has ceased, but you can review past records in that section. I am
researching more accurate temperature gauges and considering an
automated data collection for record keeping so this is on hold for
now.
If you are not already using the browser
Mozilla Firefox I recommend it. It is secure and easy to use.
Its variable text feature makes it very user friendly for the
visually challenged user. For more information about it go to
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/.
Our
guest book is currently closed to new
entries due to an overflow of spammers, but it is still open
to view past entries. See the contact
page if you wish to send us a message.
Thank you for visiting Quailhaven.
